Take the brush and with it rub the surface of the carpet in a circular motion so that it enters deep into the fabric. However, see to it that you do not apply so much pressure that it spoils the rug!
Once the rug has reached its desired size, tie the ends with the lower spiral loop. Make sure it is secured properly, or else the rug will come loose.
Gather all your supplies to clean the area rug. The things that you would need are - a carpet cleaning solution, hot water and a soft bristled brush. Buy a good quality carpet cleaning solution as a cheap one might contain chemicals that can spoil your rug.
Thorough washing of the whole wool rug is possible, but it needs a lot of time. So, take up the task when you have enough time at your hand. The best place to clean a wool carpet is an open area like the patio. Place it on a flat surface. To begin with, wet the rug properly with a garden hose. Add two tablespoons of mild liquid dishwashing soap in a bucket of water and apply it all over the rug. Dip a clean sponge in the soap water and press it on those dirty spots which need special attention. Rinse off the soap thoroughly with clean water. Then roll up the wet rug in dry towels so that the excess water gets drained out of it. Finally, place it on a flat, dry surface in a shaded area for air drying. The rug should not remain wet for a long time as it can promote growth of bacteria. For faster drying of the rug, you can use a wet vacuum for sucking up the water from it.
